So far we have not written too much about local food in the countries we were visiting. We were trying to keep you up to date with our trip and didn’t go into that level of detail, mostly due to the lack of time. Sometimes travelling is hard work and we simply don’t have time to share all our impressions with you. However, this time we could not resist
After spending almost a week in Beijing we headed down to Pingyao, one of the preserved ancient Chinese towns to get the taste of China, the way it was many centuries ago
We did not only enjoy the beautiful architecture and special atmosphere, but also got to try the best noodles ever!
Pingyao noodles were invented long time ago and were even appreciated by one of the Chinese empresses for their special taste. We could not believe that noodles can be that good until we stumbled upon a small “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant, which was serving only one thing – Pingyao noodles in all possible forms, shapes and combinations. We ordered two different types with beef and fell in love after the first bite
It’s impossible to explain – you have to try it yourself! Maybe it’s the sauce, maybe the beef, maybe the garlic or maybe the noodles themselves, which make it absolutely unforgettable. In 2,5 days we went back to the same place 4 times and ordered the same dish
Except of the noodles, there are some other reasons to visit this town as well. The main reason is to get the taste of old China, which you will not be able to find that easily
Pingyao is one of the best preserved towns in the country. Despite of being very toutistical, it has a lot of atmosphere and it’s enough to make a couple of steps off the main streets to see the life of local people.
